The Isle of Jura is a very rugged, remote and wild place, dominated by the Paps of Jura. They are very steep quartzite hills. The word Pap is an ancient word of Old Norse origin for the breast. Craighouse is the largest village on the island. The population of Jura is under 200. Islay is its near neighbour across the Sound of Islay.
